How much water do you drink in a day?

Not on a good day, not on that one day when you remembered a water bottle to have on your desk, but on average.

I know so many people who drink little to no water day-in, day-out.

The NHS suggests those of us in the UK drink ‘6-8 glasses’ of water per day. Firstly, I know there is a measurement for the glasses so why don’t they just say the amount in litres? Every time I buy glasses for my house they are a different volume size, the same is likely to be said for most other households. Any element of confusion in simple health issues like water consumption seems, to me, to be a waste of everyone’s time.

The fact is, when they say 6-8 glasses, they mean 1.2 litres.

This is simply to replace lost fluids throughout the day. If you go for a run or hit the gym, you would need to increase your fluid intake accordingly as you will be losing more fluids than on an average day. The same goes for an unusually hot day.

Personally, I am unable to function on anything less than two litres of water and several herbal teas. On an average day for me I can easily consume four litres!

How can we expect our bodies to function as best they can if we don’t supply them with everything they need?

The human body is made of up to 60% water and the brain is over 70% water. And it’s not just water that most bodies are missing to function optimally. There are many vitamins your body needs to do so many important tasks and it’s not so easy to get the full amounts through natural foods every day.

    Great post! I only seem to drink enough water when I am working. At the weekends I tend to be too busy so just forget to drink! When Monday arrives I really feel groggy and fuzzy headed due to the effects of dehydration. I will be sure to check out the vitamin D water next time I am in Tesco’s 🙂

      Yeah I always forget unless I have a water bottle literally full and in my hand. Then I’m much better! X
