Steps To A Healthier You: I

Anytime I meet up with my friends or get to meet someone from our fabulous community, I without-a-doubt always get asked for some quick and easy ways to further their attempts at achieving their personal goals. So I thought I’d start putting up some of these tips as mini posts, let me know if you like them and what you would like tips about!

WHAT SHOULD I DO FIRST THING IN THE MORNING?

A question rarely asked, but when I’m asked what small changes someone can make in their day without overwhelming them I always suggest starting with their morning routine.

STEER CLEAR OF YOUR PHONE

What we focus our energy on first thing in the morning will set us up for the rest of the day. It will shape what happens and our mindset going into every situation until we get into bed. Peering at bright screens in the dark puts a strain on your eyes, it disrupts your body’s rhythm and really, those work emails or scrolling through your Instagram feed can wait until after breakfast!

STRETCH

Stretch as soon as you wake up. Give yourself a full body stretch – it will improve your flexibility as well as circulation, getting the blood pumping and relieves any tension in the body before you have even left your bed!

HYDRATE YOUR BODY

I take half a litre of filtered water to bed with me the night before so when I wake up I can hydrate my fasted body with room-temperature water. It’s said to fire up your metabolism and flush out toxins. More than half of your body weight is water and the brain is over 70% so fuelling your body doesn’t just mean food, water is so so important!

After these steps I head off for my morning workout before demolishing breakfast, kick starting my day the right way!
