Sometimes I wake up and I’m not ready for a full breakfast spread or I’m in a rush to leave the house but I need to fuel my body first. In these moments I reach for a smoothie.
This recipe is my simple go-to and I merely adapt it slightly to whatever is in my fridge or freezer!
A handful of spinach & watercress
Half a banana
1/4 ripe avocado
A handful of frozen berries
300ml coconut water or almond milk
Whizz! Whizz! Whizz!
I like to mix it up and add oats, courgette, mango, pear, lime juice or beetroot. The combinations are limitless!
I tend to freeze bags of fruit for smoothies. It means I don’t have to add ice chips and also the fruit lasts longer so nothing gets wasted!
I love the addition of berries in my smoothies, the nutrient-dense fruits are jam-packed with antioxidants that give your body a boost for the day ahead!
Oats and bananas are also great additions. Oats contain a lot of fibre and slowly release energy, stabilising your blood sugar and keeping your mood even. Bananas are full of an amino acid called triptophan that are part of serotonin (a feel good neurotransmitter in the body) as well as containing vitamin C, B6, potassium and iron.
Why not add a few berries to your next smoothie and see for yourself how great you feel as you take on the rest of your day….
