I Diagnosed My UTI With A Postcard

“The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR, 2016) report that UTIs are among the most common types of infections with in excess of 92 million people affected worldwide.” – england.nhs.uk

UTIs were something I never learned about in school even though it is estimated that half of all women in the UK will have a UTI at least once in their life (not just women get UTIs though) so when I had a few of the symptoms I turned to my Mum, the internet and then my GP for a diagnosis. Of course, I didn’t do any of these things immediately because I was embarrassed. If I had known it was a UTI, I could have easily increased my fluid intake which is recommended first before symptoms take hold, as the more you drink the more you pee and flush out the bad bacteria from the urinary tract. No, cranberry juice wouldn’t be my fluid of choice as *MYTH BUSTING MOMENT* there is just no evidence to suggest cranberry juice cures UTIs but staying hydrated can help, so you can drink cranberry juice or just water but the result will be the same!

Enter TestCard…

A game-changing non-invasive testing kit the size of a postcard that uses a dipstick test along with your smartphone to accurately and inexpensively diagnose a UTI from the comfort of your own home. For people who repeatedly get UTIs and know the symptoms well, this saves them and our stretched NHS a GP’s visit. In the UK there are more than 10 million appointments related to UTIs every year. Now you can simply order a TestCard self-testing kit and if an infection is detected, you can, share the results with a health professional and take it from there. You’ve basically skipped straight to the end of the book and for those who maybe don’t like doctors surgeries or are embarrassed to go, this is a discreet and incredibly accessible alternative.

So what does the TestCard postcard contain?

Each kit contains two urine tests and all you have to do is download an app onto your smartphone. Tear open one a test strip and make sure you only hold the end that is specified. On the app you  then scan  the QR code on the test strip and the app will guide you through the process. All you have to do is dip the test kit strip into your urine sample, the app will tell you to wait 60 seconds before scanning your results to allow time for the strip to develop. After that, you scan the bottom of the strip as instructed and receive instant results. I seriously think this piece of medical tech is a game-changer!
