Tummy Diaries with Bioglan

If you’ve been here for a while now you will know how much I have been trying to increase my fibre intake over the last year after finding out just how important it is for the human body. So when Bioglan approached me and told me all about Inulin I jumped at the opportunity to take part in a short 2 week experiment. I took an Atlas Biomed Microbiome test on a Monday (I won’t go into details but it involves mailing my poo!) and for the next 14 days I took 15g of Inulin everyday and did a second test at the end to record any changes.

Not only are the results incredibly insightful but they showed a positive difference in just those 2 weeks!

Honestly it’s incredible! I was stunned.

So what is Inulin?

They say, “Inulin is a water-soluble fibre sourced from chicory root which offers a range of health benefits. It is non-digestible so it passes through the stomach, and small intestine, into the large intestine where it is fermented by the gut bacteria, providing the bacteria with the material and energy needed to proliferate and grow.”

It is a white powder that easily dissolves in liquid leaving no additional taste or smell to what you’ve put it in. The recommendation is to take 1 teaspoon (5g) up to 3 times per day. In nutritional terms: 15g is 13.5g of fibre and just 33kcal. More importantly the average person in the UK consumes just 17g of fibre a day when what we should be consuming is 30g. So for the average person, 15g of Inulin a day gets you hitting that 30g per day goal without overhauling your lifestyle.

DID YOU KNOW: Increasing your fibre intake from 17g to 30g per day reduces your risk of getting bowel cancer by up to 50% according to Cancer Research and around 9/10 of us don’t hit that magically 30 number everyday!

I have been adding Inulin to water bottles, cups of tea, morning smoothies, anything really! I have also put it in stir-fry’s, bolognese sauce and scrambled eggs and it’s completely unnoticeable. This means that it is so easy to incorporate into your day there is no excuse not to help your gut by trying it out for yourself.

I love this product so much I have already demanded the rest of my extended family try it out and I’ve been putting it in my boyfriend’s water bottle throughout this summer and he didn’t notice the days it was just water compared to the days the water had Inulin in it.
